> May 27, 2010
May 27, 2010Bayfield-Ashland Counties Jan Victorson announced that Lyn Cornelius of Bayfield and Gary Victorson or Iron River had contacted her that they were unable to attend tonight's meeting.
TREASURER REPORT - Steve Cordes reported as follows:
Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Pete Schenck, to accept the Treasurer's Report. Motion carried. MEDICAL DIRECTOR - Dr. Jonathan Schulz presented several points for discussion. LAKE SUPERIOR RTAC - Dan Diamon reminded members that the annual meeting for the Lake Superior RTAC will be June 3rd. PHTLS classes will be partially funded and run next fall with a PHTLS instructor class to follow. The state has adopted a new field triage protocol. When a final copy is received it will be forwarded to service directors and medical directors. The two-hour Trauma Basic course will continue being offered into next year. MMC has changed it's trauma designation to a Level 4 due to a shortage of surgeons. A discussion related to transport decisions for services on the fringe areas took place. Dr. Schulz suggested that is there is any question, a patient who may need potential surgery for instance, call MMC ER and talk to a physician - describe the situation and document physician's order for transport destination. Be SOMEBODY - Be SOMEBODY - The Be SOMEBODY kick-off event went very well. The live remote was well received. The donations for the TV ads totaled $4300. They will continue to run through June 1st. Recruitment continues to be an ongoing issue. If we help any departments we are helping ourselves. A recommendation was discussed to include Be SOMEBODY advertising at the Fairgrounds and community events such as the Blueberry Festival, etc. keeping the community aware of our need for volunteers. Another suggestion was developing a powerpoint with pictures from the event that could be used as a set program for career days. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - Jan Victorson reported on the Northwest Radio Interoperability Council meeting. Dan Clark was appointed the representative from Bayfield County EMS at the April meeting. Dorothy Tank is representing Ashland County EMS. NARROWBAND - Information on the move toward narrowband frequencies was distributed and discussed. Jan Victorson had used the same handout information to discuss narrowband at the recent Towns Association meeting. A lengthy discussion took place about the state, regional and county planning for the move to narrowband frequencies. The state has made the decision to move mutual aid frequencies to narrowband between April and November of 2011. In order to prevent the reprogramming of radios several times we are working toward the same timeline. MABAS - Jan updated the Council on discussions that have been taking place at the Bayfield County Fire Association related to MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System). She encouraged service directors and/or representative to read the MABAS Policy and Procedures document available on the Wisconsin MABAS website. Several concerns have been identified; realistic solutions need to be forwarded to Wisconsin MABAS representatives. HMEP GRANT - Bayfield County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) applied for and received a regional HMEP (Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning) Grant that developed and printed the new green sheets. The intent of these sheets was that they be available in every emergency vehicle in the northwest region as guidelines for the hazardous materials emergency. LOGGER RESCUE TRAINING - Pete Schenck announced that logger rescue training is being offered on July 15th - limited to 40 people. Each department was to receive an announcement of the training. CPAP - Ashland Fire may be changing over to a different CPAP machine making 5 units available. NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 24th at MMC/Ashland.
Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Tam Hofman, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
