February 25, 2010 MinutesBayfield-Ashland Counties EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES February 25, 2010
Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Dan Diamon, to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried.
Motion made by Lyn Cornelius, seconded by Dan Diamon, to accept the Treasurer's Report. Motion carried. MEDICAL DIRECTOR - Dr. Wesley reported that he is pleased that this very reasonable set of protocols has been approved by the state EMS office. The most immediate goal should be for service directors to get their folks trained in the new protocols.
Discussion about future planning, including use of the ResQPOD for cardiac arrest only ($85/5 yr shelf life) and moving to the King LTS-D Airway.
The Train the Trainer for Selective Spinal Immobilization will be conducted at the Iron River Community Center on Friday evening, 6:00 PM potluck and Washburn Ambulance Hall Saturday morning, 10:00 AM. All are invited.
Service directors were reminded that the addition of an advanced skill requires an Operational Plan amendment be submitted to and approved by the state EMS office. Lengthy discussion about education, training and scope of practice.
LAKE SUPERIOR RTAC - Dan Diamon reported that the focus of the RTAC continues to be the PSA competition related to Injury Prevention. PSA's are due February 28th.
A Trauma Basics course will be conducted in Iron River on Monday, March 22nd. Planning continues for the ITLS/PHTLS course offerings that will be 50% funded through RTAC. More information will be forthcoming.
PROTOCOL BOOKS - Discussion as to reprinting of the first five sections of the protocol books. The following services requested copies:
Be SOMEBODY - The Be SOMEBODY recruitment event is scheduled for May 21st. The kickoff event will be in Brule from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This year the Fire Associations from Douglas and Bayfield Counties are paying for a live radio broadcast from the kickoff. Donations are being requested for TV advertising. Consensus to send a voluntary donation request to services in the Council.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - Jan distributed handout information from LifeLink on landing zone safety and projected response times. She also distributed a flyer for a Teaching Bicycle Safety workshop. She also distributed a contact list and requested that service directors update their contact info.
GOLD CROSS - Dan Diamon reported that Gold Cross will be implementing ECG in the field to better recognize the STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction).
PUBLIC EDUCATION - Discussion about having EMS articles in the paper on a monthly basis.
LANDING ZONE COMMITTEE - Jesse Kaseno, Corncuopia Fire Chief is willing to work with Dan Clark, Tam Hofman, and Jan Victorson on a landing zone committee.
NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 25 at MMC/Ashland.
