Bayfield-Ashland Counties EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES January 24, 2013

The EMS Council meeting was called to order by Gary Victorson, Vice-President of the Council.

Jan received notice from several members that they would not be able to attend the meeting. They included: Dean Hambrecht, Council President; Jonathan Shultz, medical director; and Annette Soborowicz, MMC ER Nurse Manager.

It was determined that a quorum was present.

SUPERIOR DAYS - John Bennett and Rusty Williams, members of the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors, are asking for letters from ambulance services related to the Superior Days issue of increased training requirements for EMTs and EMRs.

Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Steve Cordes, that the Council draft a letter to be used with Superior Days related to the increase in EMS training hours. Motion carried.

MINUTES - Motion made by Cindy Lazorik, seconded by Dan Diamon, to approve the minutes. Motion carried.

FINANCIAL REPORT - Steve Cordes reported a beginning balance of $3476.26. - $153.23 Advantix (website) +$ 23.34 NCEMS Cooperative $3346.37 Current Balance

Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Dan Diamon, to approve the financial report. Motion carried.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR - Jonathan Shultz would like to try and schedule a meeting with the medical director advisory committee (MDAC) in the not too distant future. Nothing specific to address, but he would like to organize this group, maybe meet 1-2 times/year, and use the group to help sort of direct the trajectory and vision of where we want to go, or work toward, in the future as an organization. Possible meeting dates will be forwarded to committee members.

RTAC - Dan Diamon distributed a newsletter from the Lake Superior Regional Trauma Advisory Council. He also distributed the state field triage guidelines. Additional information included: > Trauma Basics 3 will have a focus on burns. [Trauma Basics 1 focused on triage; trauma basics 2 focused on pediatrics.] Contact Dan ([email protected]) if you have interest in hosing the course. > WITC currently has funds available to pay ½ the cost of PHTLS courses. Contact them if you have an interest. > A mock crash is being planned for the Bayfield area April 23rd or 24th. Looking for participants from HEMS, EMS and coroner.

WITC - Cindy Lazorik reported on schedule EMT-Basic (scheduled to begin September 10th / orientation August 29th) and EMR classes (February 18th orientation). Curricula may be viewed on the DHS website.

MMC - Steve Cordes reported that MMC is moving into the newest phase of construction. Upgrades to the garage are in the planning stages.

BA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - Thank you to services for accommodating the radio audit last week. The auditor verified 217 radios purchased or upgraded with the last grant.

BASO - Dan Clark shared information on use of synthetic drugs and incoming heroin. He encouraged EMS providers to be prepared and consider personal safety at all times.

WISCOM - Steve mentioned that MMC may be receiving a WISCOM capable radio from the current hospital preparedness grant. He shared information available about hospital use of WISCOM.

LIFELINK III - Bob Rhiel has been appointed vice president of operations for Life Link III. Congratulations!

NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 7:00 PM.

Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Cindy Lazorik, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
