Bayfield-Ashland Counties EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES July 22, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Dean Hambrecht, President of the Council.

MINUTES - Motion made by Gary Victorson, seconded by Dan Diamon, to approve the June meeting minutes as written. Motion carried.

FINANCIAL REPORT - Steve Cordes reported a balance of $4606.09. A payment of $3.80 has been received from NCEMSC that will be added to that balance.

Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Lyn Cornelius, to approve the financial report. Motion carried.

MDAC - The Medical Director Advisory Committee met to develop a quality improvement reporting tool. This form is intended to start documentation that something has occurred. Discussion of draft form.

Motion made by Tam Hofman, seconded by Gary Victorson, to approve the QI referral form with a disclaimer added on the bottom. Motion carried.

Barnes has an auto-pulse machine and has a procedure that must be filed with the state as the Auto-Pulse is considered an advanced skill. The MDAC encourages Barnes to submit their existing Auto-Pulse procedure/protocol to the state and report to the Council when they receive state approval.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR - Dr. Wesley has recommended that the Council look at using Dr. Shultz for more of our medical direction. The officers will begin reviewing job descriptions and then negotiate with the two doctors for medical direction positions and associated costs.

Changes to the EMS Medical Director report will have to be submitted to the state. Suggestion to type all the forms for the services and have Jonathan sign at a meeting.

LAKE SUPERIOR RTAC - Dan Diamon reviewed the newsletter and potential for Peds equipment in the future. Upcoming training - PHTLS, PHTLS instructor, regional conference in cooperating with Life Link III, and trauma basics were also presented. A mock crash may be planned for Northwestern High School.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - Jan Victorson presented a handout on the upcoming Household Hazardous Materials Cleansweep events in Ashland and Bayfield Counties. A discussion related to disposal of unused medical took place.

WITC - Gary Victorson presented information on behalf of Cindy Lazorik including upcoming EMT and EMR classes and possible directors meeting in August. The course fee for the EMT-Basic is $853.

MMC - Steve Cordes reported that changes are being made in the garage including the addition of sink and cabinets. Also a reminder, the ER appreciates early notification of patient transport.

LIFE LINK III - South Shore had training with Life Link III out of Hibbing. Forty people attended the training& reported to be excellent! Flight time from Hibbing to Herbster is 54 minutes. OPERATIONAL PLANS - Both South Shore and Iron River have received approval of their operational plans.

UPCOMING EVENTS - Assistance is requested of the EMS Council with providing EMS for the following events: · Bayfield County Fair - August 26 thru 29 · Fat Tire Festival - September 18th · Apple Festival - October 1st thru 3rd

NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 26, 2010 - 7:00 PM.

Motion made by Gary Victorson, seconded by Ed Hofstrand, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
