MDAC August 26, 2004

August 26, 2004

North Wing Class Room

Present:  Dr. John Schulz, Gary Victorson, Jan Victorson, Merrilee Carlson, Cindy Lazorik, Tam Hofman, Becky McKay, Scott Thimm, Chuck Elton, Peg Kman, Rob Puls and Dorothy Tank.

Gary Victorson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM.

Minutes:  Motion to accept July’s meeting minutes made by Dr. John Schulz, seconded by Chuck Elton.  Motion carried

Field Spinal Clearance Protocol Update: Dr. John Schulz submitted a letter to the State of Wisconsin Department of EMS on July 23, 2004 regarding implementation of a Field Spinal Clearance Protocol.  To date there has been no reply.  The Field Spinal Clearance Protocol and training on protocol have been placed on hold pending guidance from the State.

Intercept Protocol:  Dr. John Schulz initiated a discussion with regard to requesting ALS intercepts.   A lengthy deliberation followed expounding on a multitude of issues, which may impact the decision/process of requesting an intercept. These included the role of dispatch, education of the ambulance services to request an intercept sooner (even before they are on scene because the intercept can always be called off), education of the Medical Direction coming from MMC ER, automatic dispatch guidelines, RTAC trauma transport guidelines, and SOG revision.  Though no formal decisions were made, it was the consensus of the group that the primary goal is to decrease the “lag time” between the initial time of call and the time when the request for an intercept is made.

Motion to adjourn meeting at 8:05 PM made by Chuck Elton, seconded by Tam Hofman

The next MDAC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 6:30 pm.
