12 OVERDOSE

1.                  Secure and maintain airway.  Consider C-spine precautions.

2.                  Administer O2 to maintain SaO2 >95% (90% if hx COPD).

3.                  Talk to patient and reassure to decrease anxiety.

4.                  Complete Primary Survey.  Initiate BCLS as needed.

5.                  CALL FOR INTERCEPT IF UNSTABLE OR CONDITION DETERIORATES.

6.                  Be ready to attach defibrillator if condition deteriorates.

7.                  Determine type and amount of overdose:  Alcohol, Drugs, Poisons.  Bring containers in if possible.

8.                  Contact Medical Control.

9.                  Administer as advised:  Charcoal or Syrup of Ipecac.

10.              Monitor Vital Signs and Condition en route.
